Dear Tanka friends

I’m writing as I hope that the Snapshot Press Book Awards and the Snapshot Press eChapbook Awards might be of interest to some of you, given that they offer rare opportunities for the publication of single author collections of tanka.

The fast-approaching deadline for the eChapbook Awards is the end of July. Tanka entries should comprise of 8-20 tanka, which may be individually published or unpublished.

Submissions for the Book Awards are open until November 30. Tanka manuscripts should comprise of 60-100 tanka.

Tanka may also be entered alongside other short poems (such as haiku) in the “short poetry” category of either Award.

I hope that through the Awards the press will continue to make a small contribution to furthering the growth of English-language tanka. For those of you relatively new to the genre, the press has a considerable history of supporting tanka, publishing the journal Tangled Hair (the first journal dedicated to English-language tanka to be published outside the US) from 1999-2006, and several individual collections. I was also an editorial advisor for The Tanka Anthology, published in 2003.

Apologies to those of you who have an interest in haiku and/or haibun and are receiving some of this information in duplicate!
