Sanford Goldstein's tanka set to music - concert in Tokyo

At the Noh Theatre in Niigata, Japan, where Sanford Goldstein gave a reading in 2008 of selected poems from FOUR DECADES ON MY TANKA ROAD, six of the tanka were set to music by the well-known Japanese composer Nagako Konishi.  Her music composed for the tanka was repeated in a Tokyo program featuring 8 Japanese composers. Ms. Konishi called her series of pieces "me! and my! and mine!"  taken from Goldstein's tanka "I never carried / a mirror placed Toulouse-like / in my battered cap— / and still from my tanka brush / this cascade of me! and my! and mine!" The concert was held on April 29, 2009, at Hakuju Hall in Tokyo. Ms. Konishi played all the pieces on the piano accompanied by violin and cello, five of the tanka being sung  by a tenor.
