An Anthology of Walking Haiku - call for submissions

CALL FOR HAIKU FOR A NEW ANTHOLOGY

I would like to announce a new anthology, and to call for submissions.  I am currently putting together An Anthology of Walking Haiku, to mark the launch of a new poetry imprint, ink inc press.

Like many people who write haiku, a regular habit of walking my locale is a crucial part of my poetic life.  I invite submissions of haiku on the theme of walking from haiku poets anywhere in the world for whom walking, whether urban or rural, long distance or local, is central to their haiku practice.

If you wish, you may include a short statement about the role walking plays in your writing. I will include a selection of the statements in the anthology.

During the Romantic period, poets like Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Clare made walking a central part of their poetics, and this was further continued by the Transcendentalists in North America.  The anthology will include a short introduction tracing the long traditions of walking poetry in the English speaking world, linking them to the tradition of the wandering haiku poet in Japan.  Parallels will also be drawn between walking haiku and related contemporary phenomenon such as land art and the recent vogue for environmental writing.

Previously published haiku are welcome.  Please send a generous selection of your walking haiku to: Mark Rutter, Walking Haiku, 81a Middlebridge St., Romsey, Hants. SO51 8HJ.  Alternatively, haiku can be submitted via email to: flyingsaucers@btinternet.com .
