A special edition anthology of poetry about aging, a print edition, is to be published in early 2008 by Modern English Tanka Press and is to be entitled "Ash Moon Anthology: Poems on Aging in Modern English Tanka."

The Ash Moon Anthology is about the later years of life: the "golden years" to some and far from it to others. Senior men and women have a perspective on life that cannot be achieved except by enduring the passage of several decades. Younger adults who have become caretakers and caregivers for their elders gain new insights into later life. Just as youth and the fullness of maturity are celebrated for their special characteristics, so should be the later years. We are open to tanka about all aspects of aging, both the up and down sides, the joys and the sorrows. We are open to tanka that embody the humor, insight, and wisdom of our elders and the ways in which we age with grace and even elegance.

Please send submissions, up to forty tanka, in the body of an email (no attachments) both to Alexis A. Rotella at rengagirl@yahoo.com and to Denis Garrison at dmg@metankapress.com. We will jointly edit the anthology. Be sure to include in your subject line: Ash Moon Anthology Submission—Your Last Name. Also, make sure that the author’s name is included under EACH poem submitted, even if submitted as a set. This will greatly assist us in keeping your poem and name together as we go through the processes of sorting, editing, compiling, and layout. Please include "first published in" credits for any previously published work with your initial submission. We would like to include your best work in Ash Moon Anthology. We require only one-time rights to print publication; this book will not be available online as a digital edition, only as a print edition.

We are not able to offer any payment for poetry accepted for this anthology, neither money nor contributors’ copies.

The Ash Moon Anthology open submissions period is September 1, 2007 through January 1, 2008. We plan to publish Ash Moon Anthology early in 2008. A decisive reply to a submission could take up to four to five months.

We hope that you will contribute some of your best work to Ash Moon Anthology, planned as the fifth in the series of fine tanka anthologies being published by Modern English Tanka Press.
