2007 Silken Verse Awards

Durham, NC - Urban Echoes Entertainment is pleased to announce the first annual Silken Verse Awards! The writing competition will recognize quality poetic works fashioned in the time-honored literary tradition of haiku, senryu, and tanka verse.

Award Amounts
Haiku 1st Prize: $200, 2nd Prize: $100, 3rd Prize: $50
Senryu: 1st Prize: $200
Tanka: 1st Prize: $200

Eligibility open to writers worldwide. Submissions must be unpublished and not under promise of publication when submitted; may be simultaneously submitted elsewhere, but please notify if accepted. There is no limit to the number of submissions allowed. Include cover letter with name, address, phone number, and email address (if applicable). Poems must be titled and typed or handwritten (legibly) on 3x5 or 4x6 index cards, one poem/card. Entry fee is $1 per poem. Include SASE of sufficient size and postage for return of materials. Postmark deadline for submissions is Friday, August 17, 2007.

Submissions containing racist language, pejorative content,
and/or hate speech will not be considered.

Winners will be announced in October via nationwide press release, in Poets & Writers Magazine, on Urban Echoes's website, and in Urban Echoes's quarterly newsletter. All winners will be published on website and in quarterly newsletter, and all submitting authors will also be considered for future publication by Urban Echoes.
